A little clarity. A lot of confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Ilios private swim lessons, from booking and locations to progress, weather, and what to expect.

Getting Started

Ilios offers private swim lessons for swimmers from age 2 through adulthood. We work with complete beginners, developing swimmers, and more experienced swimmers looking to improve their technique, confidence, and overall swimming ability.

Yes. Every Ilios lesson is strictly 1 swimmer to 1 instructor. Your swimmer receives their instructor's full attention for the entire lesson, allowing each class to be personalized around their individual needs and progress.

Lessons are available in 30-minute and 45-minute options, depending on the swimmer's age, needs, and your preference.

Generally, no. Ilios lessons are private 1:1 lessons between the swimmer and instructor, including most swimmers around age 2. Our instructors work individually with each swimmer to gradually build comfort and confidence in the water.

Knowing your child's previous swim level is helpful, but it is not required to book. During the booking process, we ask a series of questions about your child's current swimming ability to help determine the most appropriate starting level.

That's completely okay. Because every Ilios lesson is 1:1, our instructors can work at your child's individual pace and focus on helping them become comfortable before progressing to more challenging skills. Building confidence in the water is a major part of our program, especially for nervous or beginner swimmers.

Swimmers should bring a swimsuit, towel, and goggles. Ilios provides the teaching equipment, flotation devices, PFDs, and other equipment needed throughout the lesson.

Absolutely. Parents are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area while their swimmer participates in their lesson and progresses through their skills.

Lessons & Progress

Private instruction allows swimmers to spend more of their lesson actually swimming and learning instead of waiting for their turn in a group. It also allows the instructor to adjust every class around the swimmer's strengths, challenges, pace, and confidence.

Ilios Swim School is affiliated with the Lifesaving Society and follows its recognized swim-level system. Our lessons are structured around helping swimmers develop the skills required to progress through their appropriate level.

Our instructors continually assess each swimmer's skills throughout their lessons using the Lifesaving Society level requirements. This allows lessons to stay focused on the specific skills each swimmer needs to improve.

Yes. Once a swimmer successfully completes all of the required skills for their level, they receive their Lifesaving Society report card and badge.

On average, Ilios swimmers complete a level in approximately 8–9 private lessons. Every swimmer progresses differently, so this is not a guarantee. Our 1:1 lesson format is designed to maximize teaching time and help swimmers progress as efficiently as possible.

Yes. Our instructors continuously assess each swimmer's progress. Once all required skills for a level have been completed, the swimmer can begin working toward the next level rather than unnecessarily repeating skills they have already mastered.
