Our story

We believed swim lessons could be better.

Too much waiting in group lessons. Too high a price for private ones. We started Ilios to give families a better option.

Personal lessons. Clear progress. More confidence.

2022 · The beginning

It started with one backyard pool.

Ilios began in 2022 at Treelawn Pool, with a simple idea: make private swim instruction accessible to more families.

One swimmer. One instructor. Time to learn, practice, and build confidence.

Families trusted that approach. And one backyard pool became the beginning of something bigger.

A better way to learn

Built around progress.

Every lesson starts with your swimmer. We adjust to their ability, confidence, and pace, with a clear next step to work toward.

More time in the water. More chances to learn.

Confidence.

The confidence to try something new.

Water safety.

Safe habits, built into every lesson.

Stronger swimming.

Focused practice that builds on each skill.

Lasting comfort.

Feeling more at home in the water.

As a Lifesaving Society affiliate, we follow its recognized levels to keep progress structured and clear.

Growing with our families

From one pool to a growing network.

What started at Treelawn has grown into a network of pools, instructors, and families who value a more personal lesson.

As we welcome more swimmers, we’re keeping the same focus: great teaching and families who feel looked after.

Meet the founder · Mateo

Built by a swimmer. Designed around families.

Mateo has been around the water for most of his life. He started teaching swimming at 15 and became a lifeguard at 16.

Teaching showed him what a difference individual attention makes. He wanted more families to have that experience.

That’s why he started Ilios in 2022.

Mateo, Founder and Director of Ilios Swim School

My goal is simple: to raise the standard of private swim instruction and create an experience families genuinely trust and value.

Our approach · Now and as we grow

What stays the same as we grow.

  1. 1:1 means 1:1.

One swimmer. Their instructor’s full attention, for the whole lesson.

  2. Progress has a purpose.

Every lesson builds skills toward a clear next step.

  3. Great instructors matter.

Patient, knowledgeable people who connect with swimmers and make learning enjoyable.

  4. Communication should be easy.

Clear updates about lessons, schedules, and weather.

  5. Swimming should build confidence.

Learning a skill should help swimmers feel more capable, too.

Our next chapter

The pool has changed.
The goal hasn’t.

From our first swimmer to your family, the goal is the same: personal attention, growing confidence, and real progress in the water.
